Which Documents Do You Need for a Lock?

What catalogues, dimensional drawings, instructions and reports explain, and how to match them to the same model.

Start with an exact product identity

Record the brand, full model, configuration and product status. A catalogue series name may not distinguish the actual supplied configuration; ask the supplier to identify the exact correspondence.

Keep the version of every document

Retain original catalogues, instructions, dimensional drawings and accessory lists, recording the source, acquisition date and applicable model. Store translations or extracted text separately from originals for verification.

  • Instructions: functions, usage restrictions and maintenance requirements.
  • Dimensional drawings: installation dimensions, units and measurement reference points.
  • Configuration tables: optional accessories and different function versions.

Distinguish claims from verification

Manufacturer statements, third-party reports and your own testing are different forms of evidence. When recording performance, retain test conditions and applicable models; agreement with a catalogue alone does not verify performance.

If documents conflict, record the differences side by side and ask the supplier to confirm them, especially dimensions affecting installation compatibility.

Confirm permitted use before publishing materials

After obtaining documents, confirm permission for public use of images, drawings, instructions and videos. Confirm display, translation, modification and original-file downloads separately, and handle third-party materials independently.
