Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections

A smart lock may use both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, but their availability and supported operations depend on the specific model and application conditions.

Scope: Uses official Schlage Encode function information as an example. Does not imply identical behaviour during network outages for all smart locks.

Distinguish connectivity from functions

Schlage describes remote management of Encode through built-in Wi-Fi and Schlage Home, as well as Bluetooth use after app pairing. This is a series-specific example, not a shared promise for every product bearing a Bluetooth symbol.

Checking by scenario

When comparing products, separate operation near the lock, remote operation away from home and home-network interruption. Ask the manufacturer to explain available methods and prerequisites for each.

  • Is a gateway or other equipment required?
  • Does local code operation work independently of the network?
  • Are the installation site's network and app region supported?

Record versions and dependencies

Record model, app name, connection accessories and verification date. Software updates may change available functions, so an old advertising screenshot should not be the sole long-term evidence.
