Check battery type first

Yale New Zealand's support page recommends alkaline batteries for its smart and digital locks and warns against mixing brands or types. This advice has regional and product limits and is not a universal rule for all smart locks.

Keeping maintenance records

Record the model, specified battery type, replacement date, when low-battery alerts appeared and recent operating abnormalities. This helps distinguish routine replacement from sudden drain requiring further investigation.

  • Confirm quantity and polarity against the instructions.
  • After replacement, check normal local operation and battery indication.
  • Read this model's low-battery procedures in advance.

Do not promise uniform battery life

Battery life must be tied to manufacturer test conditions and actual usage records. For abnormal drain, also provide usage frequency, network changes and whether the lock sticks. A single replacement interval does not establish the life of every unit of the same model.
