Door closer speed, backcheck and delayed action

Closing speed, final latching, backcheck and delayed closing act during different movement phases. They are distinct adjustments and do not mean the closer can hold the door permanently open.

Scope: Summarises ISEO catalogue function explanations and specific closer examples; does not provide valve turn counts or on-site adjustment steps.

Distinguish by the door's direction of movement

Backcheck acts while the door opens, hydraulically slowing the relevant phase of opening movement; it is not closing-speed control. Closing speed and final latching describe speeds or actions in different portions of the closing movement.

ISEO's general explanation uses the final 15° to explain latching action, but that illustration does not replace individual model installation instructions or establish how far to turn a valve on site.

Delayed closing differs from hold-open

The catalogue describes delayed closing as a delay over a certain angular portion of closing; a hold-open arm is a separately listed mechanical configuration. “Delay” does not mean the door can remain at a chosen angle indefinitely.

The IS315 technical table lists backcheck and delayed closing; IS155C lists backcheck with the delay field blank; IS65 lists only closing speed and final latching. Similar appearance does not mean identical adjustment features.

How to read model parameters

First identify the complete model and arm type, then check each item in the technical table. Example times or angles in one series description should not become shared parameters for every closer.

Adjustment items describe capabilities, while door width, weight, power size and mounting method determine another set of compatibility conditions. Abnormal closing cannot be diagnosed as a fault merely because a page says “with backcheck”; check the corresponding model documents.
