Electrified lock holding current

Holding current is the current specified by the manufacturer to maintain a particular operating state. It is a separate field from maximum current; the lower holding current alone does not describe the complete power-supply requirement.

Scope: Uses the maximum-current and holding-current fields of Schlage ND electrified locks as an example. Does not provide power-supply selection or wiring instructions.

Why two current values appear in a specification table

Official ND electrified lock specifications separately list maximum current of 0.23 A and holding current of 0.01 A. These describe different operating conditions and are not interchangeable values to choose between.

What to record alongside current

Record the model, input voltage and manufacturer's conditions together. The official input voltage range in this example is 12–24 V DC; these values do not apply automatically to other locks of the same brand.

Questions to ask the supplier

Provide the complete model, number of locks and control method, and ask the supplier to check supply conditions against the relevant installation documentation. A low holding current does not establish that a particular supply can power every device.
