Meaning of passage function

BHMA describes passage as keeping a door closed without locking it. It can resemble other lever locks; the difference is whether locking operation is provided.

Distinguishing passage from privacy function

Specify no locking required or inside locking required, then ask the supplier to match the function code. A handle photograph alone is insufficient because shape and finish colour do not reliably distinguish functions.

Organising application requirements

List door location, whether entry must be restricted and whether a separate locking device already exists. Selecting passage function is not a security-grade assessment. Installation compatibility still requires checking door thickness, bores and backset.
