Why door thickness needs a separate record
BHMA's purchasing guidance lists door thickness among measurements needed before checking lock compatibility. Backset and thickness run in different directions and cannot substitute for each other.

Describe measurement conditions clearly
Record thickness near the mounting position and state whether finishes, cover plates and other accessories are included. Where the door has protrusions or uneven areas, mark actual contact positions in photographs.
- State millimetres or inches with the value.
- Indicate additional plates on either side of the door.
- Confirm whether thick-door accessories are purchased separately and identify their models.
Check the complete configuration
Ask whether the target lock case, handle, spindle and fasteners together support the door thickness. One component's range cannot replace confirmation of the complete installation.
